ABOUT

I am a research fellow at the University of St Andrews.  St Andrews has been my academic home since 2001, when I started studying for a B.Sc (Hons) in Marine and Environmental Biology.  I then studied for a Masters of Research (M.Res) in Environmental Biology between 2006 - 2007.  This led to my Ph.D. studies between 2007 - 2012.  The focus of my thesis was estimating whale population sizes using acoustic data i.e., the sounds that animals make. This field of research is multi-disciplinary, encompassing biology, statistics, oceanography, physics, computer science and working with cutting-edge technology.  My thesis work has led to a number of related projects, which you can read more about on my Research pages.
